From Russia with love

I stumbled upon an interesting video, which is connected to the recent events in Ukraine, where ordinary people started rioting because of their poor living conditions. When Yanukovych and a few other oligarchs fled the country and the police left their properties unprotected,  journalists were able to take photographs  of their luxurious, over-the-top mansions. The president had a private ship, a giant zoo, as well as a replique of some Greek ruins. His close friend had a property that could rival with the Chateau de Versailles when it comes to the quantity of golden ornaments, although it was clearly decorated with less taste. In this particular video an American journalist managed to meet with a Russian oligarch Sergey Vereemenko who was eager to boast about his lavish lifestyle.  He showed his 26-year-old wife, miss Universe 2006, his icons collection, later they went hunting in Vereemenko’s private hunting estate. Finally they went to sauna and drunk some vodka. He claimed that bribery is part of Russian mentality, as well as the avoidance of taxes, but now it is  changing slowly. It is quite though-provoking to see how this tiny fraction of percent of the Russian population live while other Russians often struggle to make ends meet.

  1. I must say I find this really disturbing to watch, but at the same time it is fascinating to see how detached those people are from normal life.
